Seatbelt Safety

Simply Put…Click It!

How many times have you said this about using your seatbelt?

It’s uncomfortable and chokes me.

It wrinkles my t-shirt.

I don’t want to.

The steering wheel will stop me if there’s an accident.

I am only going a couple of blocks, nothing will happen that close.

These are the common excuses for not wearing a seatbelt while in a vehicle.

These are the excuses that over 11,000 people used before they died in an accident in 2019.

47% of the folks that are unrestrained during an accident….die.  They aren’t held in by the steering wheel.  The airbags didn’t save them.  And it happens anywhere even a block from the house..  And it doesn’t discriminate.

Oh, and don’t give me that crap about personal freedom, or the government isn’t going to tell me what to do.  That is the biggest load of bull.  You follow rules and laws everyday, it is what makes us civilized.  We follow the laws of the government, the laws of the state, and the laws of our employers….so do not start that line of crap.

55% of the people that are killed in nighttime accidents are unrestrained at the time of the incident.  Over half…let that sink in.

If you get in an accident at night, and are not wearing your seatbelt, statistics say that you have a better than a 50/50 chance of dying.

So you don’t care what happens to you.  If it’s my time to go, it’s my time to go, you say.  Well guess what.  When you are ejected from the vehicle, you place emergency crews in danger trying to save your sorry butt at the scene of the accident.  When you are ejected from the vehicle, you will take a hospital bed away from a dying cancer patient, or a battered child.  When you are ejected from the vehicle, your family will worry and probably grieve over your stupid decision to travel unbuckled.

Detective Daniel Gomez knows the pain associated with these tragic accidents.  He has watched as loved ones have had to endure the pain of the loss of someone who didn’t wear his/her seatbelt.  He has seen the effects that a simple decision can have.

Detective Gomez wants everyone to know that:

It only takes two seconds to buckle your seatbelt before starting the car…

Only two seconds to save your friends and family from mourning your loss.

Only two seconds to save your life.
